Hi! I'm Makana, and I'm a graphic designer and social media coordinator for Mount Hope Church. While I graduated from Spring Arbor University with a degree in Visual Communication, focusing on graphic design, over the past three and a half years, I have expanded my skills far beyond graphic design, acquiring and building proficiencies in photography, photo editing, video directing, video editing, and copyediting. Within graphic design I have developed my capabilities in branding and apparel design as well. I consider myself a flexible designer, adapting easily to different brand styles and project goals, working well with coordinating different media. Thanks for checking out my portfolio!

Contributed to the planning and execution of events, and promoted with multimedia campaigns utilizing photo, video, mail, signage, and email elements in tandem.
Scheduled day-of photography and videography for church services and special events, and directed video content for both long-form and short-form use.

Creative Writing
I am part of a bi-weekly writing group that I manage with two college friends. We regularly meet to read, discuss and provide feedback on each others' work. In the year and a half we've been running this group, I've found my writing has improved significantly, as well as my editing skills.

TikTok

As a consumer of TikTok, I often see trends and public reactions to them before they hit other platforms like Instagram or YouTube. In addition, I post regular content on my account, which allows me to be familiar with the app's editing software and algorithm.

Strategy games

Whether it's a card game, a board game, mobile or console game, I'm a big fan of strategy. Even though it's a different way of thinking, I do believe this interest exercises my mind in a way that helps when I need to be analytical with marketing tactics. Some of my favorites include Settlers of Catan, Disney Lorcana, and Sushi Go.

Music

Growing up, I was in my school's band program from fifth grade until graduating college, participating in concert band, marching band, jazz band, choir and musical theater over the years. While I don't get the opportunity to play as often as I once did, I still enjoy music as both a listener and participant.
